The Girl Child Initiative Project, in collaboration with the OK Foundation, celebrated World Menstrual Hygiene Day at Isheri Grammar School, with a focus on creating a “Period Friendly World.” This event was a testament to the continuous dedication of Honourable Kafilat Ogbara, Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, and Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, towards the betterment of girls’ lives and gender equality.
The event was designed to educate and engage young girls on menstrual hygiene, aiming to dismantle stigmas and promote gender equality. Honourable Kafilat Ogbara’s involvement underscored her commitment to the well-being and development of the girl child in her constituency and beyond.

The event featured interactive sessions where students participated in discussions and quizzes to enhance their understanding of menstrual health, hygiene, and management. Educators and team members provided valuable insights, debunking myths and addressing common misconceptions about menstruation. Additionally, product demonstrations were held to introduce students to safe and sustainable menstrual products, promoting long-term health and environmental benefits.
The initiative successfully increased awareness and understanding of menstrual hygiene among the students, significantly reducing the stigma and shame traditionally associated with menstruation. By normalizing these conversations, the event fostered a more supportive and informed community.

Princess Tolu Akilagun-Solarin, founder of the Girl Child Initiative Project, extended her heartfelt thanks to Hon. Kafilat Ogbara for her unwavering support for girls and women in the community and nationwide. She also expressed gratitude for the educational materials distributed at Isheri Grammar School, which will further aid the students’ learning.
Special thanks were also given to Nigeria Breweries, makers of Maltina, Amstel Malta, Fayrouz, Besense Sanitary Pads, and SRS, for their generous support in promoting menstrual hygiene awareness.

This event marked a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and informed community, reflecting Hon.
