Honorable Kafilat Ogbara, distinguished Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development and esteemed Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, has embarked on a commendable initiative to empower her constituents through access to financial literacy programs. Championing the ethos of Sustainable Development Goal 17, she has spearheaded efforts to foster financial inclusion in her community.

Collaborating with Exponential Hub, a prominent member of the Innovation Support Network (ISN), Honorable Ogbara orchestrated a strategic partnership involving educational institutions, local government authorities, individuals with disabilities, and other stakeholders. This coalition, driven by a shared commitment to socio-economic advancement, facilitated comprehensive financial literacy training sessions, reaching a substantial cohort exceeding 2,000 participants between January and April 2024. At the epicenter of this transformative endeavor was a pivotal event held on March 6, 2024, at the esteemed Constituency Office of Honorable Ogbara. Demonstrating unwavering dedication to her constituency, she facilitated the attendance of over 200 women and youths, ensuring their direct access to invaluable financial education. Through her astute leadership, Honorable Ogbara emphasized the intrinsic link between financial literacy and socio-economic development, particularly highlighting the efficacy of delivering training sessions in the local dialect for enhanced comprehension and applicability.

The significance of this initiative resonated profoundly during the event, with participants expressing profound gratitude for the enlightening experience. Amidst expressions of appreciation, the women conveyed their firm resolve to integrate the acquired skills into their daily endeavors, thereby fostering economic resilience and empowerment within their respective spheres.

Further underscoring the impact of Honorable Ogbara’s initiative, the President of the Ogbonge Women’s Cooperative, Mrs. Chinesa Asonye, lauded the collaborative efforts of Exponential Hub and the support extended by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Recognizing the pivotal role of financial literacy in engendering societal agency and resilience, Mrs. Asonye articulated the profound implications of this endeavor in empowering women to navigate financial landscapes with confidence and discernment.

Subsequently, on April 24, 2024, Exponential Hub extended its outreach in collaboration with the esteemed University of Lagos (UNILAG), further amplifying the scope of financial literacy initiatives. Through strategic engagement with university stakeholders, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Development Services, Prof. Ayo Atsenuwa, and Dr. Ayodele Shittu, Coordinator of the Career Development Services Unit, UNILAG, Honorable Ogbara facilitated an enriching one-day training session for students and staff members.

Dr. Shittu’s acknowledgment of the profound impact of the training underscored its significance in equipping participants with essential financial acumen and safeguarding against fraudulent practices. In embracing the spirit of continuous learning, Dr. Shittu expressed eagerness for future collaborations, reflecting the enduring legacy of Honorable Ogbara’s commitment to fostering financial literacy and socio-economic empowerment.
