Kosofe Rep: Hon. Hon. Kafilat Ogbara Mourns Tragic Death of Ms. Somtochukwu Maduagwu
ON THE TRAGIC DEATH OF MS. SOMTOCHUKWU CHRISTELLE MADUAGWU
“We mourn a life so full of promise, and a voice that championed justice.”
With great sorrow and a deep sense of National loss, I write on behalf of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Developments to mourn the heartbreaking and untimely death of Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a courageous Nigerian, who was taken from us through a violent armed robbery attack in her own home.
Somtochukwu was more than a Citizen. She was a voice, clear, courageous, and unwavering in the struggle for women’s political representation and equity. As a proud and vocal supporter of the Reserved Seat Bill, she stood for the ideals of justice, inclusion, and equal opportunity for Nigerian Women in governance and leadership. She believed that Nigeria could be better.
We grieve not just for what was lost, but for what could have been. A future leader. A Nation-builder. A sister. A friend. A voice for justice.
Ms. Maduagwu’s untimely death is not only a personal tragedy to her family and loved ones, but also a grave loss to the Nation. Her life was cut short in a manner that is heartbreaking.
To her family and loved ones: No words can fully comfort you in this moment, but know that you do not mourn alone. We stand with you in grief, and in our shared determination to honor her legacy not just with words, but with action.
As Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, I call on the Nigeria Police Force and all relevant security agencies to carry out a swift, transparent, and thorough investigation into this heinous crime. Justice must not only be promised, it must be delivered.
This tragedy is a stark reminder of the urgent need to strengthen our security architecture and ensure that our homes and communities are safe. We reiterate our commitment to advocating for stronger policies that protect women from all forms of violence and insecurity.
May Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu’s soul rest in peace, and may her death awaken the conscience of our Nation to act decisively against all forms of insecurity.
Signed,
*Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara*
Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Developments, Kosofe Federal Constituency.
