KOSOFE REP, HON. KAFILAT OGBARA FACILITATES NEMA RELIEF FOR FAMILIES AS AGBOYI, AJEGUNLE, AGILITI, OWORONSHOKI BENEFICIARIES RECEIVE SUCCOUR

Flood-affected residents and families impacted by demolitions welcome intervention with songs, dancing and prayers

September 2026 | Kosofe Federal Constituency, Lagos

Relief came to families across Kosofe Federal Constituency on Monday, September 28 2026, as Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, Member representing Kosofe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, facilitated the distribution of relief materials in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The intervention reached beneficiaries in Agboyi Kingdom, Ajegunle, Agiliti and Oworonshoki, providing food and essential household items to families affected by flooding and, in some locations, the consequences of demolitions.

NEMA has undertaken flood-relief interventions in Kosofe and other Lagos communities, including direct assistance to flood-affected households. Its 2026 flood-response activities have also included impact assessments in Kosofe communities to document damage and humanitarian needs.

From National Assembly Motion to Relief on the Ground

Addressing constituents at Agboyi Kingdom, Hon. Ogbara reminded residents that the intervention followed the concerns she had raised on the floor of the House of Representatives regarding the flooding situation in the community.

She explained that the relief distribution was one of the practical benefits of bringing the plight of affected residents to national attention and engaging the relevant emergency-management authorities.

The intervention, sponsored through NEMA, was designed to provide immediate succour and cushion the impact of the hardship suffered by affected families.

NEMA’s established flood-response framework includes the distribution of food and non-food items to affected communities, in collaboration with relevant state agencies and community stakeholders.

What Each Beneficiary Family Received

Each selected family received a package containing eight categories of relief materials, comprising:

* 25kg bag of rice

* 25kg bag of beans

* 1 carton of spaghetti

* 5 litres of groundnut oil

* Salt

* Seasoning cubes (Maggi)

* 1 blanket

* 1 carton of tomatoe

With over 400 families served across the constituency, the intervention provided both food supplies and household support to families navigating the aftermath of difficult circumstances.

Agboyi Erupts in Songs and Celebration

At Agboyi Kingdom, the arrival of Hon. Ogbara was met with songs, dancing and an outpouring of gratitude.

Residents welcomed the intervention warmly, with beneficiaries describing the assistance as timely and meaningful.

For a community that has repeatedly faced the challenges associated with flooding, the relief distribution carried a significance that went beyond the items themselves.

Residents said they were grateful that their concerns had been heard and taken beyond the community to the National Assembly and the relevant federal emergency-response agency.

Women and community members offered prayers for Hon. Ogbara, while beneficiaries expressed appreciation for what they described as her continued attention to the welfare of ordinary constituents.

Relief Across Ajegunle, Agiliti and Oworonshoki

The intervention extended beyond Agboyi.

Beneficiaries in Ajegunle also received relief materials, while families affected by demolitions in Agiliti and Oworonshoki were among those reached by the distribution exercise.

At each location, the atmosphere was marked by gratitude.

Songs and dancing accompanied the presentations, while residents repeatedly prayed for Hon. Ogbara and thanked her for remembering families facing difficult circumstances.

The response reflected a wider sentiment among beneficiaries that constituency representation should not end with parliamentary debates but should also connect vulnerable residents with practical support when emergencies arise.

“She Truly Cares About the People”

Constituents used the occasion to praise Hon. Ogbara’s approach to representation, describing her as a lawmaker who, in their view, maintains a visible connection with the people she represents.

Beneficiaries spoke warmly about her accessibility and concern for ordinary families, while community members highlighted what they regarded as her willingness to respond when communities raise pressing concerns.

The expressions of appreciation culminated in prayers for the lawmaker, her family and her continued public service.

A Gesture of Relief, a Message of Care

The distribution offered different things to different families.

For flood-affected households, it meant food and essential supplies at a difficult time. For families affected by demolitions, it offered some immediate assistance amid disruption. For the wider constituency, it was a demonstration of how a local concern could be taken from the community level to a federal response mechanism.

And as residents sang, danced and prayed across Agboyi, Ajegunle, Agiliti and Oworonshoki, the emotion was unmistakable.

The relief materials may not erase the hardship these families have experienced, but for more than *400 households, they represented something immediate and tangible: succour, recognition and the assurance that their struggles had not gone unnoticed.

For Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, the intervention also reinforced the message at the heart of her constituency engagement: representation is not only about speaking for the people it is also about ensuring that their voices lead to action.
